A CHSLD is a “Long Term Care Nursing Home” or a centre that lodges persons with an important loss of autonomy. What procedure must I follow to have my parent admitted in a CHSLD? To obtain a place in a CHSLD, you must direct your request to your local CLSC (the CLSC is now part of the Centre de Santé et de Services Sociaux of your region). They will evaluate the level of loss of autonomy of your loved one. If the level of loss of autonomy is important and that the “Home Care Services” are impossible, the employees of the CLSC will prepare an official request for admission to a CHSLD. If the loss of autonomy is less, and that the CLSC can offer “Home Care Services”, the loved one concerned will be encouraged to remain at home as long as possible. From that moment, a request for admission to a CHSLD will be reported to a later date. By consulting the site of the Ministry of Health and Social Services at the following address: http:// wpp01.msss.gouv.qc.ca/appl/m02/ Can I choose the CHSLD that I want? The citizen is permitted by law to choose the establishment of health and social services of his choice. This choice is however limited by the admissions criteria which may vary from one centre to the other. Certain CHSLD’S lodge particular clients, but in general the choices are very diversified. What are the main services offered by the CHSLD? The services are very diversified. We find amongst others, room and board, assistance living, surveillance, medical, psychosocial, pharmaceutical, nursing, physiotherapy, and occupational therapy services. There are also social activities, entertainment, zoo-therapy and music-therapy, etc. The Centre also ensures that you can practice the religion of your choice. What is the difference between a CHSDL privé-conventionné and a public CHSLD? Both CHSLD’S have the same criteria for admissions and operating of the Centre. They accept the same type of clients generally in great loss of autonomy. The services offered in these Centres are established by the ministry of Health and Social Services, as are the rates. The only differences that exist are administrative and concern the property and administration of the building. I would like to obtain the list of all the CHSLD’S in the province? By consulting the site of the Ministry of Health and Social Services at the following address: http://wpp01.msss.gouv.qc.ca/appl/m02/ The loved one that you want to place is still autonomous or in slight loss of autonomy and you are looking for a residence for the elderly? You can consult the internet site of the Association of residences and CHSLD’S non conventionnés of Québec at the following address: www.arcpq.org. or call # 1.514.526.3777 or free at 1.800.440.3777. You are not satisfied with the services and you want to make a complaint. You must address yourself to the quality control and complaint commissary of your local CHSLD. Ask for the coordinates from the the Resident’s Committee or from the administration of the CHSLD. |
